October 2011
We have had a few hiccoughs with our renovations. Unfortunately the damp problem in the Big Room is still not completely under control, and we have had to use a humidifier to help deal with it. In addition
the effort made to lay a car park has also run into problems as the grass is growing through the chippings. We are working on solving this, several ideas are being looked into, but if anyone out there has a
suggestion, please share it with us. We have now been awarded extra funding from the Suffolk Foundation thanks to David Wardle's additional work augmenting the application made by Susan Hawkes. This is
specifically targeted at kitchen improvements, and money to pay a caretaker for three years who will be responsible for maintenance and cleaning until we are in a position to fund it ourselves. I expect some
of you will wonder why this is not done on a voluntary basis, but there are very few of us already trying to cover a multitude of tasks. One of the areas we have been working very hard on is the wardrobe,
as this is potentially a good source of income. A sub-committee has been formed to do this, and we are fantastically fortunate to have the help of Eileen Hicks, now retired from Chuckles, who is heading the
team. Her experience, skills and contacts are already proving invaluable. The clearing of the wardrobe may be compared to an archaeological dig, and during this process, as well as throwing stuff out and
sending others items to charity shops we have been able to raise £885 by selling articles which cannot be used for stage or hiring purposes. Some of this money is earmarked for the restoration and
embellishment of other costumes, but it is a good contribution towards the ever-present need to pay insurances and fuel bills etc. Our evening of Victorian Melodrama is now into rehearsal. We
have a number of new and returning performers, and the three plays promise to be exceedingly entertaining – so read on! YOU ARE CORDIALLY INVITED TO JOIN US AT
FADOS HOUSE ON FRIDAY DEC 2nd OR SATURDAY DEC 3rd
AT 7.30 PM. NO CHARGE WILL BE MADE, BUT DONATIONS AT THE END OF THE EVENING WILL BE VERY WELCOME. LIGHT REFRESHMENTS WILL BE MADE AVAILABLE IN THE INTERVAL If you can let us know when you would like to come it would be helpful, but just come along anyway. If you enjoyed the previous party, this
will be even better! The phone numbers for any contacts will be at the end of this letter. There is one less-cheerful piece of news. Unfortunately it has proved necessary to suspend the Youth Group until
Easter. There are several contributory reasons for this, some of which are completely out of our control. However, we hope it will rise again, like a phoenix from the ashes, after the winter. CONTACT DETAILS:Wardrobe – Eileen 01394 277 341
